Cajeput is a plant cultivated in Australia, Malaysia, and India. It belongs to the Melaleuca family, like tea tree. Although it arrived in Europe only in the 17th century, cajeput has been used on the Australian continent for centuries due to its therapeutic properties.
The essential oil is obtained through steam distillation of the branches and leaves of the tree. Approximately 100 kg of plant material is needed to produce 1 kg of essential oil. Cajeput has a fresh aroma reminiscent of eucalyptus.
