This spice herb is originally from Indonesia and was brought to Europe in the Middle ages. Clove is a evergreen tree that can grow upto 10 meters. In the old Rome and traditional chinese medicine it has been used for tooth ache and ailments of the oral cavity.
The essential oil is obtained by steam distillation of the buds and flowers. It takes 6 kg of buds to produce 1 kg of essential oil.
Clove essenital oil is rich in phenols especially eugenol. It acts as a immunostimulant for the whole body, stimulates the circulation and raises the blood pressure. It has analgetic and antibacterial properties so it has traditionally been used for gingivits, granuloma and tooth ache.
Clove essential oil is very strong, it irritates the skin so correct dosage is of great importance. Keep away from light and heat. Do not apply directly on skin or mucose membranes. Not for oral use. Keep away from children.
