Tea tree is an evergreen shrub from the myrtle family, native to Australia. It got its name when explorer James Cook saw indigenous Australians making tea from the leaves of Melaleuca in the 18th century.
Today, it is one of the most well-known essential oils. It is obtained through steam distillation of the leaves, requiring about 100 kg of leaves to produce 1 kg of essential oil.
Tea tree essential oil has been valued for its therapeutic properties for many years.
