Ravintsara belongs to the camphor tree genus and is native to Madagascar. The local population has long known about the medicinal properties of this plant. Due to its intense aroma, it is called Hazomantira, which literally means “tree that emits scent.”

The essential oil of ravintsara is obtained by steam distillation of the leaves. About 50 kg of plant material is needed to produce 1 kg of essential oil.
