Lavender is one of the most well-known and popular oils in aromatherapy. Ancient texts attest that this oil was used for medical and religious purposes over 2500 years ago. Once cultivated only in France, lavender is now grown in various parts of the world, including California, New Zealand, and Kashmir.
Lavender essential oil is obtained through steam distillation of the above-ground parts of the plant. Approximately 120 kg of plant material is required to produce 1 kg of essential oil.
