Lemon eucalyptus is an evergreen tree with leaves that emit a pleasant citrus scent. Once cultivated only in Australia, it is now grown in Brazil, China, and India due to its increasing use in the cosmetic industry.
The essential oil is obtained through steam distillation of the leaves. The resulting oil has a lemony-citrus note similar to citronella, as both oils are rich in the monoterpenic aldehyde citronellal.
