Hydrosols

Hydrolates are a by-product of the process of distilling plant material to obtain essential oils. This process yields two complementary products: essential oil and hydrolate. When the steam cools and condenses during the distillation process, the water-insoluble components are separated from the rest of the liquid. The part insoluble in water is the essential oil. The remaining “water” is hydrolat or floral water.
