Litsea is a evergreen tropical tree with white flowers, elongated leaves and fruit that look like black pepper grains. It has a fresh, stimulating, citrus scent that is well accepted by the majority of people so it is a revered ingredient in the parfume industry.
The essential oil is obtained by steam distillation of ripe fruit. The essential oil contains over 75% od monoterpen aldehide foremost geranial and neral.
Litsea essential oil has antifungal, antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties. It is sedative in small doses so it has traditionally been used in states of nervousness.
