The citronella plant belongs to the botanical family of sweet grasses, cymbopogon, originating from the tropical parts of South America and Asia. Because of the rich, fresh and lemony scent it is a favourite ingredient of the parfume and cosmetic industry.

Dea Flores citronella essential oil is obtained by steam distillation of the aerial part of the wild grown plant. Around 100 kg of plant material is necessary to produce 1 kg of this geraniol and citronellol rich essential oil.

Citronella essential oil has excellent antiseptic properties so it is traditionally used for inflammatory conditions of the skin, ulcers, wounds and dermatosis. Eventhough citronella is by far the most famous for its repellent properties, a study of the japanese Ministry of agriculture has shown its efficacy on Aspergillus, Penicillium i Eurotiu fungi.
